35 Reasons Why I Keep the Bible Sabbath

By Robert Franklin Correia

This book will give you 35 reasons why it is important for us to keep the Sabbath. This book will build your faith and give you confidence in your walk with God. Here is Reason #8, taken from page 17:

  1. Because the Sabbath is God’s flag.

God has a flag:

  • “I [God] will set up my ensign”
  • A flag is a sign:
  • They set up their ensigns for sins (Ps. 74:4)
  • God’s sign is His Sabbath:
    • “I have them my Sabbaths, to be a sign” (Eze. 20:12; see also verse 20).
    • “It [my Sabbath] is a sign (Ex. 31:13).
    • “It [my Sabbath] is a sign… forever” (Ex. 31:17)   https://biblesabbath.org/shopping/pgm-more_information.php?id=94&=SID

    • God took of the fabric of time and made Himself an ensign for eternity. He made a unit of time by rolling of a globe, and He called that unit day. He took a handful of days – seven-and made them a week. And of that week He took the last day, the seventh, and made it the Sabbath. That Sabbath is His sign, His emblem, His flag.
    • Since God has a flag (Isa. 49:22, RV), and a flag is a sign (Ps. 74:4), and God’s sign is His Sabbath (Eze. 20:12, 20), therefore, God’s flag is His Sabbath, because things equal to the same things are equal to each other.

House Churches in China

House Churches in China

by Paul Wong

“Among many Sabbatarian groups, there has been much interest and discussion about Sabbath-keepers in Communist China. The following is the second humaninterest article from Paul Wong, a minister in the True Jesus Church, which is a Pentecostal Sabbatarian denomination. He gives us a brief glimpse of the lives and beliefs of the Sabbatarians of China…. —Ed. §

The house church originated in Jerusalem when Christianity was at its infancy. Right from apostolic times, the gospel has spread not only through preaching at public places, but also through meetings in believer’s homes. After Pentecost, the disciples met in homes and broke bread “from house to house” (Acts 2:46). The apostle Paul wrote to the disciples in Rome to greet Priscilla and Aquila and also “the church that is in their house” (Romans. 16:3-5). House churches have been in operation throughout the centuries.

Generally there are two types of Christian churches in China. The first type consists of Chinese government approved institutionalized churches that are organized by the Three Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM). Normally these churches are also members of the China Christian Council (CCC). The second type consists of house churches that are also known as “underground churches.” These house churches operate illegally, that is, without the sanction of the Chinese government.

Before the Communist takeover of China in 1949 there were three indigenous movements that worshiped in house churches. They are the True Jesus Church, the Jesus Family and the Little Flock. Of the three only the True Jesus Church worship on the Seventh Day Sabbath. After the takeover these churches continued their worship in house churches and operated in a clandestine manner in many parts of China.

2nd Century Papyri Defending the Sabbath

2nd Century Papyri Defending the Sabbath

By Kelly McDonald, Jr.

The New Testament is rife with examples of Sabbath keeping with both Jews and Gentiles (see Acts 17:1-4, 18:1-4 for two). Some believers will say that right after the early Apostles died Christians just suddenly changed the Sabbath. There is not any evidence of this “sudden change”, but we find the majority of Christians still honoring the Sabbath into the 400s AD and a little later.

In the 1800s, there was a tremendous amount of archaeological work that supplemented and confirmed what the Bible already told us. Among these findings were certain papyri documents discussing beliefs of the early church. In Egypt, the Oxyrhynchus Papyrus (c. late 100s or 200s AD) displays information about the Sabbath:

“Jesus saith, Except ye fast to the world, ye shall in no wise find the Kingdom of God; and except ye make the sabbath a real sabbath, ye shall not see the Father” (Grenfell, Bernard P. and Hunt, Arthur S. The Oxyrhynchus Papyrus. Oxford University Press, London: 1898. Part 1, p. 3. Logion 2, verso 4-11)

This papyri seems to be a sermon elaborating on the words of Jesus and possibly referring to a part of his teachings that we presently do not have. Remember, Jesus did so many things that the whole world could not hold the books describing them.  One of Jesus’ central teachings is denying ourselves and rejecting the ways of this world (Matthew 16:24-26, Mark 8:36). He also said that He is Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:8). He taught us how to correctly honor the Sabbath.

This papyrus only confirms what we already know to be absolute truth and that the Sabbath was taught beyond the time of the early Apostles.

History of the Waldenses

WaldensesSm

History of the Waldenses

By JA Wylie

This important history book details the history of the Waldensian people (also called the Vaudois). They dwelt in the Piedmont Valley, which is in the Swiss Alps on the border of Italy and France. They were Sabbath keepers who were persecuted because of their faith. They refused to accept the doctrines of Rome. God did amazing miracles to protect these people.

1487 Pope Innocent VIII issued a decree or bull of extermination against these people. An army was organized and sent to destroy them. As they marched up to the Piedmont Valley, a mighty miracle occurred. Here is an excerpt from pages 50-51:

“A White Cloud, no bigger than a man’s hand…was seen to gather on the mountain’s summit, about the time the army would be entering the defile. That cloud grew rapidly bigger and blacker. It began to descend. It came rolling down the mountain’s side, wave on wave, like an ocean tumbling out of heaven – a sea of murky vapor. It fell right into the chasm in which was the papal army, sealing it up, and filling it from top to bottom with a thick, black fog. In a moment the host were in night. They were bewildered, stupefied, and could see neither before nor behind, could neither advance nor retreat. They halted in a state bordering terror. The Waldenses then tore up huge stones and rocks, and sent them thundering down the ravine…The papal soldiers were crushed where they stood….some [of the papal army] were trodden to death; others were rolled over the precipice and crushed on the rocks below or drowned in the torrent, and so perished miserably.”

Becoming Fervent in Thought Control

BECOMING FERVENT IN THOUGHT CONTROL

by Ernest P. Bergmann

“Verse 5 of 2 Corinthians 10 captured my attention. It tells us to bring into captivity every thought. What a challenge! My first question was, HOW? How can I react quickly enough to my thoughts to preclude them from becoming words? There are many dynamic situations in which we have no time to reflect on each thought and edit the evil ones.

Clearly, withholding troublesome thoughts is one meaning of this verse, but another meaning is plausible. In a more leisurely pace, we can capture each thought in the Bible and apply it, in effect, internalizing it.

Upon further reflection both viewpoints are indeed applicable. Let us examine the text and try to capture some if its meaning. Verse 1 “Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:”

Paul needed to awaken the Corinthians to Christ. They seemed to think Paul had two personalities; one when he spoke and one when he wrote. Apparently Paul was meek in person, but his writing was bold. Many can think more boldly…”

An Old Sabbath-Keeping Hymn from Eastern Europe

An Old Sabbath-Keeping Hymn from Eastern Europe

By Kelly McDonald, Jr.

In 1894, a man named Samuel Kohn translated hymns of Sabbath keepers who had dwelt in Transylvannia for centuries. The hymns date to at least 1600 AD or before. Interestingly enough, in their hymns, they note how many churches made changes from God’s festivals to those that are not in the Bible. Here is a sample from a hymn:

“So for all the existing churches of the old; deviated true faith, yes, they have forged him: Instead of Sabbath, they keep Sunday, The Passover they remodel for Easter; At Pentecost boldly make the feast of Fiftieth day; The new year and its festival do bold daring; From autumn to winter they lay; They hold none of all the other parties – Just as the Gentiles” (Bosnia Cathars 1588-1623. Die sabbatharier in Siebenbürgen, Kohn, Samuel, 1894, pp 90-91).

Many centuries after the Roman Church began influencing people away from the Sabbath, a remnant still knew the truth.
