Anxiety Rules

Anxiety Rules

By Ray Wooten

“Anxiety is all around us. It is a malady that plagues almost everyone to one degree or another. It not only affects the poor, it affects all people regardless of their status in the world. A huge part of the world’s resources has been spent in an effort to resolve the problem of anxiety through counseling, drugs, rehabilitation centers, and may other means only to fail miserably. It just intensifies and deepens as we try to treat the problem gently by focusing on the problem. Could it be that we need to reconsider our approach to this debilitating problem and listen to our Savior’s solution to the whole matter of worry and Anxiety? If you believe that we should, then here we go.

The Bible shares Jesus’ dissolution of this entire matter very early in His training class for His disciples. This counseling also applies to you and me, His modern day disciples. Matthew 6:19-33 explains that the entire cause for anxiety is contained in the matter of what each of us individually values and cherishes as our most important treasure. This means both now and eternally. Jesus says in verse 19, “Do not store up riches for yourself here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and robbers break in and steal.” Moths eat cloth and rust oxidizes metal. Nothing is this physical dimension lasts forever. Material things always picture or symbolize the spiritual or invisible things that are eternal (see Romans 1:20)….”

Sabbath Traditions

Sabbath Traditions

by Lettie Lippincott Siddens

I consider being born and raised in a Sabbath observing family a benefit. Although that does not mean I was a perfect child.

Most of my first seven years we lived on a large rented farm ten miles from Milan, Missouri. While living there we attended a Sabbath observing church.

When I was a preteen, my Dad, Edgar Lippincott, started preaching in various churches when not needed in the local Church. Now we lived in Milan and sometimes went to minister in other churches in the area while doing various jobs as opportunity provided for our living.

My favorite friend attended the Methodist Church and I often went with her. The town Ministerial Council surveyed the school children asking if they attended church and where. I checked that I attended the Methodist Church. But my conscious hurt so much I had to quit going with her. I continued to go faithfully with my parents on Sabbath…”

History of the Waldenses

WaldensesSm
History of the Waldenses

By JA Wylie

This important history book details the history of the Waldensian people (also called the Vaudois). They dwelt in the Piedmont Valley, which is in the Swiss Alps on the border of Italy and France. They were Sabbath keepers who were persecuted because of their faith. They refused to accept the doctrines of Rome. God did amazing miracles to protect these people.

1487 Pope Innocent VIII issued a decree or bull of extermination against these people. An army was organized and sent to destroy them. As they marched up to the Piedmont Valley, a mighty miracle occurred. Here is an excerpt from pages 50-51:

“A White Cloud, no bigger than a man’s hand…was seen to gather on the mountain’s summit, about the time the army would be entering the defile. That cloud grew rapidly bigger and blacker. It began to descend. It came rolling down the mountain’s side, wave on wave, like an ocean tumbling out of heaven – a sea of murky vapor. It fell right into the chasm in which was the papal army, sealing it up, and filling it from top to bottom with a thick, black fog. In a moment the host were in night. They were bewildered, stupefied, and could see neither before nor behind, could neither advance nor retreat. They halted in a state bordering terror. The Waldenses then tore up huge stones and rocks, and sent them thundering down the ravine…The papal soldiers were crushed where they stood….some [of the papal army] were trodden to death; others were rolled over the precipice and crushed on the rocks below or drowned in the torrent, and so perished miserably.”

German Sabbath Keepers in the 1500s

German Sabbath Keepers in the 1500s

By Kelly McDonald, Jr.

In the 1500s, there was a tremendous revival of the Sabbath in Germany, especially in Bohemia and Moravia. Two of the leaders of this Anabaptist Sabbath movement were Oswald Glait and Andreas Fischer.

They convinced most Lutherans in Moravia to keep the Sabbath. Desidarius Erasmus is one of the celebrated scholars of European history. He discusses these believers in his letters:

1533 – Desiderius Erasmus

“At this present time, we hear that in the realm of Bohemia is springing up a new (or fresh) kind of Judaism, called Sabbatarians, which are greatly superstitious in keeping (guarding) the Sabbath, so that if something crosses their eyes they will not move it…” (De sarcienda Ecclesiæ concordia, Page 152 [Latin translation mine]).

These Sabbath groups had such a large following that Martin Luther wrote an entire letter to denigrate them called “Against the Sabbatarians: Letter to a Good Friend.” The letter was written in 1538. It was also about this time Luther began his downward spiral into anti-Semitism.

We can see that in the midst of this movement away from the Catholic Church, God was drawing people to honor His holy Sabbath.

When Churches Split

When Churches Split

by Kenneth Westby

Splits happen. There have been many, and there will be many more. They occur in all denominations and for that matter in just about any human organization. I experienced a big one first hand.

They called me “the Devil,” well, maybe not THE Devil, or THE Satan, but a bad hombre under the devil’s influence. I was accused of being used by the Prince of Darkness to attack “the church,” to cause a split. Heavy stuff. I was innocent of the charge and wasn’t pushing for a split, but what does that matter?

Who were the “they” to which I refer? The “they” were the human heads of God’s One and Only True Church, the OTC. They were the most important humans on earth, spiritually speaking, to use the proper caveat. More heavy stuff.

What was the crime that prompted my firing and energetic denunciation? Simply this: I questioned church practices, ethics, and doctrine and suggested reforms. In this I was not alone as 35 other ministers were of the same opinion on the same issues, and they too were fired. It now seems a lifetime ago.

Since I seemed to be a leader the devil label was pinned on me and great calamity ensued: The human heads of the OTC (One True Church) warned the confused and wavering brethren that this may be the end-time sign when Satan launches his attack to destroy…”

The Morality of the Sabbath

MoralityOfTheSabbath

The Morality of the Sabbath

By D.M. Canright

In this book, you will learn about the absolute morality of the Sabbath. It will provide a different perspective on the importance of the Sabbath. You will learn about the physical and spiritual aspects of the Sabbath that prove it is just as much apart of God’s spiritual law as the rest of the Ten Commandments. The body was designed for rest; in our fast-pace world, Godly rest will produce a harvest of results. Here’s an excerpt from pages 24-25:

Pages 24-25

“Thomas Sewell, M.D., professor of pathology and the practice of medicine in the Columbian College, Washington, D.C. says: ‘While I consider it the more important design of the institution of the Sabbath to assist in religious devotion and advance man’s spiritual welfare , I have long held the opinion that one of its chief benefits has reference to his physical and intellectual constitution; affording him, as it does, one day in seven for the renovation of his exhausted energies of body and mind – a proportion of time small enough, according to the results of my observation, for the accomplishment of this object…..I have no hesitation in declaring it as my opinion that, if the Sabbath were universally observed as a day of devotion and of rest from secular occupations, far more work of body and mind would be accomplished, and be better done; more health would be enjoyed, with more of wealth and independence, and we should have far less of crime and poverty and suffering…”
